Frequently asked questions... |
How old is my piano? A piano's age can be determined by locating the serial number inside the instrument. Email us your Piano Make and Serial Number for more info about your piano. Is my old piano worth rebuilding? Mostly, yes. A new piano will usually outweigh the cost of investing in restoring an old instrument. Like antique furniture, many grand pianos only appreciate in value. This is especially true of the following brands - Baldwin, Mason & Hamlin, Steinway & Sons, Yamaha, Kawai, and most major West German makes. A consumer should always consider rebuilding as a first alternative to buying a new piano. Ask yourself what your piano would be worth after rebuilding compared to the amount you spent on the repair job. Call us for a written estimate or quote. My tuner told me about cracks in the soundboard. What does that mean? The soundboard is the most important component of the piano. It provides the amplification that allows your piano to sing and sound audible. Tone quality will suffer when the soundboard is damaged. This problem will often arise due to varying degrees in temperature or humidity. Most pianos, at some point, experience some degree of cracking due to the extreme climate conditions here in Canada - especially due to higher humidity levels in the summer and dryness in the winter. Fortunately, this is relatively easy to repair. Please call us for a qualified opinion. |
